A letter from the Priest
Dear Friends
We are glad that you are considering having the celebration and blessing of your marriage or civil union at Church of the Mediator. Legally, the ceremony is a simple contract witnessed and executed before a justice. For Christians, however, the ceremony is so much more. It is a service of worship, a special occasion of joy in which two people publicly declare before God, their families and friends, and their faith community their commitment to enter into a life-long union. The couple also receives the commitment of continued support from everyone gathered. And they receive the blessing and grace of God.
In this spirit of community, we provide the following information for you to review as you plan for your wedding or civil union here at Church of the Mediator. I look forward to speaking with you in person.
Yours in Christ,
The Rev. Darlene Kuhn, Rector
Planning Your Wedding at Mediator
We have three spaces for ceremonies; a small chapel that seats 20, the main sanctuary that seats 128, and the outdoor lawn can easily seat up to 75 and remain an intimate setting.
The Chapel will seat 20 in vintage pews. The forward altar space accommodates the priest and wedding couple. A very intimate and private space. This area is wheelchair accessible.
Our main Sanctuary comfortable holds 128 guests in cloth-covered cushioned chairs with kneelers. A balcony offers an excellent location for a photographer, setting up a video camera to record the service, or for a small musical string or brass group. We have a pipe organ and grand piano available for use with a hired musician(s). This space is wheelchair accessible.
A Lawn ceremony may be held under the shade of the trees between the Labyrinth and wooded area. This is a beautiful area with the availability of a fire pit when the weather is cool. Guests can access this area by walking through the church and then out the bricked pathway to the labyrinth and around to the seating area. Guests can also walk around the building from the parking lot. Rented golf carts may be an excellent option for guests with mobility concerns. These guests could park along Lake Shore Road on the backside of the church property and close to this suggested area, picked up by your cart attendants and driven to the seating area. We have 78 metal folding chairs for your use or you can rent alternate chairs locally.
